SPARC is seeking a Project Manager for The Great Wall Institute, an 8-year initiative to extend The Great Wall of Los Angeles Mural, currently located in Valley Village inside the Los Angeles River. The Great Wall Institute will be an interior mural studio that will house the painting production for six new decades of the Great Wall mural, beginning in the 1960s and ending in 2020. The Great Wall Institute Project Manager will oversee and manage day to day production for the Institute. The creation of the additional ½ mile of new mural will be led by internationally known artist and SPARC Artistic Director, Judy Baca. The project’s artistic team will conduct research and design of each decade to the full scale painting production with a team of mural artists and youth at the Great Wall Institute. Digital/Mural Lab: Digital Artist
The Digital/Mural Lab Digital Artist provides hands-on support for art projects and public art commissions, located in a community setting at the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC). We are seeking a Digital Artist, who has traditional/ classical training in fine arts (drawing and painting), who is adept at photoshop for digital composition, digital painting, systems administration, remote desktop IT work, and following the directions of an Artistic Director in the creation of public artworks.
Great Wall Researcher
The Great Wall Researcher will support content development by conducting historical and archival research on key events between 1960 and 2020, and assist in interviews with community partners and project participants. This research will guide the development of the artistic designs for the extension of the Great Wall mural.Under the direction of the Great Wall Research Director, the Researcher will work with the artistic team, Curriculum Development Assistants, Digital Mural Lab team and Archivist to archive and disseminate the research findings.
Digital Mural Artist
We are seeking a Digital Artist adept at using digital tools for drawing, painting, and composition to provide hands-on support for SPARC's works of public art. The Digital Artist will work under another Digital Artist and the Artistic Director in-house in our Digital/Mural Lab, a unique research and artistic production facility that uses state-of-the-art computer technology to facilitate the production of public artworks. The Digital/Mural Lab is equipped with outstanding tools and technology, collaborative spaces, a mural painting studio, and mural fabrication and prototyping equipment. We work in a creative, stimulating environment that is highly flexible and customizable for creative projects. Ultimately, the projects that are envisioned in the DM/L contribute to a body of public imagery that speaks of both beauty and social change in our public spaces.
