Call for Members: Arts Ed Collective Leadership Circle

The Department of Arts and Culture seeks members to join a leadership advisory body, Leadership Circle, to inform the work of the Los Angeles County Arts Education Collective, a county-wide collective impact initiative that helps ensure every young person in LA County grows up with the arts.

Since 2002, the LA County Department of Arts and Culture has coordinated the Arts Ed Collective initiative. Strategic directions for the LA County Arts Ed Collective initiative are outlined in the "Arts for All Children, Youth, and Families: LA County’s Regional Blueprint for Arts Education” (Arts Ed Blueprint), adopted by the LA County Board of Supervisors in 2020. The Arts Ed Blueprint provides entry points for collective work that advance the arts as fundamental to child and youth development and envisions a growing network of stakeholders working together to build capacity within and across the field, and to advance policy change in ways that benefit all youth in Los Angeles County, particularly young people and communities that have been marginalized by intersecting systems of oppression and inequity.

Advancement of the initiatives’ strategic directions is informed by the Leadership Council [to be reestablished as the Leadership Circle] and Funders Council. With the goal of activating diverse, cross- sector leadership, in spring 2023 Arts and Culture convened community partners as a Leadership Circle Design Working Group to re-imagine the role and structure of a leadership body for the Arts Ed Collective.

The working group offered an initial outline for the Leadership Circle, including a draft Mission, Vision and Values (below) to guide its work.

The Leadership Circle will be comprised of individuals who are passionate about the arts and whose leadership, work, and social justice advocacy support goals of equity in arts education and arts-based youth development.

Leadership Circle members will represent perspectives and experiences from across the arts education and arts-based youth development ecosystems.

Annual Funders

The National Leaders of Color Fellowship program (LoCF) is a transformative leadership development experience curated by Creative West in order to establish multicultural leadership in the creative and cultural sector. By partnering with the other United States Regional Arts Organizations (USRAOs) the program has expanded nationwide and its mission has become a national endeavor. 

During this no-cost eight-month fellowship, selected fellows receive access to specialists in the field, strategic learning objectives determined to deepen thought on anti-racist and culturally-oriented leadership practices, and national-level network and cohort building. Upon completion of this program, participants are granted alumni status and have opportunities to collaborate with the USRAO in their region as advisors, funding panelists, and/or other professional capacities.

The fellowship is online and typically takes place from the late fall through early summer of the subsequent year. Approximately 10 hours of work should be budgeted outside of the program dates listed below. As such, fellows are encouraged to receive pay from their employers for hours spent engaging in this fellowship opportunity. The USRAOs are available to provide a letter of support as a resource by request.

The Kimzin Creative BIPOC Producers Lab, created in partnership with Creative Sonoma, is an innovative, nine-month professional development program designed to foster the growth and success of (2) emerging Sonoma County-based BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) producers. This program will provide selected participants with: the foundational knowledge of artistic production, application of event production skills as event producers, and mentorship for participants in the creation of their own artistic or cultural event for the community.

The lab is specifically tailored to support producers in creating inclusive, impactful cultural or artistic events centered on BIPOC arts and cultural practices and communities. Participants will develop the skills necessary to succeed in the creative industry, from project management and marketing to cultural curation and community engagement. 

By the end of the program, participants will have learned the foundations of production, produced their own community-wide event, built valuable industry connections, and gained skills that will advance their careers in the arts & business sector.

Participants will attend (3) workshops and (3) conversations led by industry experts on key topics such as budgeting, marketing, project management, storytelling, and community engagement. All workshops and guest lectures will be facilitated by established BIPOC producers.

Participants will take on the role of event producers, responsible for the ideation and execution of nine monthly events for LA ASAMBLEA— “an artistic experiment by/for Sonoma County BIPOC & Queer artists + co-conspirators”. Additionally, participants will have a budget of $10,000 to conceptualize, develop, and produce their own artistic or cultural event for the community by the end of the program term.

Participants will be paired with an experienced BIPOC producer for one-on-one guidance and support throughout the program. This mentor will help navigate the challenges of production and ensure participants are well-equipped for success.

By the end of the lab, participants will have gained extensive experience in producing live events, built professional networks, and acquired a toolkit of skills that will enable them to continue their work in the creative sector. Additionally, their work will promote cross-cultural and intergenerational connections, elevate diverse voices, and activate inclusive community spaces in Sonoma County.

The Kimzin Creative BIPOC Producers Lab requires a time commitment of approximately 30 hours per month for workshops, guest lectures, and event production tasks. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of $1,500 to support their participation throughout the nine-month program ($13,500 total throughout the program). This stipend is intended to cover time spent in training and hands-on event production, providing participants with the financial support they need to focus on their growth as emerging producers.

Fractured Atlas is seeking a full-time Fundraising & Member Advisor, Programs for our Programs team. Fractured Atlas is a national nonprofit art service organization with a membership of over 75,000. Our mission is to make the journey from inspiration to living practice more accessible and equitable for artists and creatives. We are dedicated to helping individual artists and arts organizations at every level of the cultural ecosystem, in every creative medium by providing fundraising tools, educational resources, and personalized support. As a key member of the Programs Team, the Fundraising & Member Advisor, Programs provides essential support across all programs and services, working closely with our members and artists on a 

Provide member advising and financial administrative oversight for Fractured Atlas’ fiscal sponsorship, fundraising tools, and artist visa services:

Support daily operations of the fiscal sponsorship program

Conduct consultative and onboarding calls using Calendly and Zendesk Talk 

Manage extended email communication with artist members using Zendesk

Advise artist members on the use of Fractured Atlas’s fiscal sponsorship program, including its fundraising and financial tools, and how to follow donation and financial procedures

Fractured Atlas - Fundraising & Member Advisor, Grants & Member Advisor

The Director of Project Finance supports the development process from project inception to project completion and stabilization. The role is responsible for supporting the financing of projects through the lifecycle of project development for current and future properties that are funded through a variety of private, federal, state, grants and local sources. Focused on affordable housing, the candidate will be a key member of the Company’s community development team working in partnership with other real estate professionals in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Successful work performance requires skill in coordinating work with other departments and outside agencies. The position interfaces closely with Casa Familiar’s Executive Management, Board of Directors, Accounting, Asset and Property Management and staff within the Community Development division.

The Compliance and Grants Specialist role is crucial in advancing the organization's mission through effective grants management and support. The Compliance and Grants Specialist collaborates with the Development Officer to maintain post-award grant management and compliance for a diverse portfolio of grants. Their responsibilities include supporting post-award grant management activities such as amendments, renewals, reporting, grant meetings, donor tracking, sub-award management, and compliance with donor requirements. This role will help with the grant proposals, organization of our grant contracts and agreements, and organizational compliance requirements. Given the increasingly complex regulatory landscape surrounding state & federal grants, the Compliance and Grants Specialist must assist with ensuring our compliance with all relevant governmental regulations and policies. The Compliance and Grants Specialist will provide analysis, post-award support to multiple Casa Familiar operations teams, and grant oversight to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations. They will guide grant-specific requirements and serve as a resource for staff of grant-funded programs for fiscal and programmatic compliance matters. This position will mitigate risks and uphold our commitment to compliant and ethical fundraising practices.

The Youth and Senior Services Director oversees and manages programs and services that cater to the needs of youth and senior populations within the San Diego/San Ysidro communities. This role involves strategic planning, program development, staff supervision, and community outreach to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that enhance these groups' well-being and quality of life. This role will oversee multiple programs and initiatives, which include academic tutoring and support, youth mentorship, summer camp programs, juvenile diversion, and social/emotional enrichment for school-aged youth living. In addition to youth services, this position will oversee Casa Familiar's older adult services, which include, but are not limited to, senior onsite social services, personal development classes, workshops, assistance with social benefit program applications and advocacy, and physical and recreational activities to nurture a happier and healthier senior community. This position collaborates with the Programs Officer and several key leaders throughout the agency to ensure that all programs and services under their purview successfully connect with our youth and older adult population.

The Community Services Director at Casa Familiar plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission and strategic priorities by overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services to address underserved communities' needs. The Community Services Director is responsible for the success of programs and initiatives that provide individuals and families with information, resources, and support to help our communities thrive. Reporting to the Programs Officer, the Community Services Director provides strategic leadership, manages program budgets, fosters partnerships, and ensures the effective delivery of services to meet the organization's goals. Californians for Justice is a statewide, youth-powered organization fighting to improve the lives of people of color, immigrants, low-income families, LGBQiA2S+/TGNC youth and other marginalized communities. Through organizing in schools and in their neighborhoods, youth who join Californians for Justice become leaders in their own communities. They deepen their knowledge on issues like systemic racism, gender and sexuality, and education inequity, and organize and activate their peers to take action.

CFJ is the only grassroots, youth-powered organization in California that organizes students to have a voice in both local and statewide education policy. Our campaign and policy reform goals include adequate and equitable school funding, increased access and success in K-12 and higher education, and creating Relationship Centered Schools - schools that invest in youth voice, in staff, and in creating space for youth and adults to build positive relationships with one another. 

CFJ currently has four regional offices in Fresno, Long Beach, San Jose and Oakland, 42 full-time equivalent staff and a budget of $5.5 million.Californians for Justice has been successful because of our strong, dedicated staff team. CFJ staff are unwavering in their commitment to youth power and racial justice, to building connection and trust with their teams, and have a strong sense of purpose and dignity in their work. 

The Organizer will lead and coordinate CFJ’s grassroots organizing work in Long Beach through base building, leadership development, political education workshops and other activities with high school students. The Organizer will also actively participate in CFJ’s local and statewide education organizing and campaign work through action research, coordinating campaign events, delegations with system leaders, alliance work, and electoral organizing. 

The Organizer is part of a four-­person team: an Organizing Director, Lead Organizer, and two Organizers. The Organizer reports to the Lead Organizer in Long Beach and also works closely with other CFJ regional organizers, and across departments and teams in the organization. The position is full­-time and non-exempt. Organizers have a schedule of Mon - Fri 10/10:30 AM - 6:30/7 PM, some weekends, late evenings and overnight retreats may be required.

Base Building & Leadership Development (60%)

Conduct base-building activities throughout the school year with high school students including but not limited to: school outreach, classroom presentations, one-on-ones phone banking, management of three school-­based chapter(s), developing and managing teacher ally relationships, and sustaining an active base of students at chapter(s) based on annual goals.  

Lead Long Beach’s leadership development programming through weekly student leader meetings centered on: skills building, political education, community building, and conducting consistent one-­on-­one member check-­ins.

Lead Long Beach’s leadership development tracking, manage and oversee our membership goals, and member’s individual leadership development and trajectory through CFJ’s leadership pathways. 

Manage and implement Long Beach’s regional Distributed Leadership Model by recruiting and training a core group of members who will develop their own teams made up of high school youth who will work together to advance CFJ’s campaign and programmatic goals. 

Supervise a team of high school interns and build their leadership and organizing skills.  

Support our local and statewide education organizing and campaign work through action research, coordinating campaign events, delegations with system leaders, and electoral organizing (including phone banking during elections).  

Participate in ally events and meetings to build and maintain CFJ’s visibility and community solidarity.

Organization-­wide responsibilities (10%)

Participate in all grassroots fundraising campaigns and maintain a portfolio of individual and organizational prospects for solicitation.  

Participate in and be accountable to cross-­department committees, teams, and departments.  

Assume rotating meeting facilitation, note taking and tech support roles and responsibilities as needed.  

Provide support and participation for organization-­wide and regional campaigns and events.  

Californians for Justice - Organizer

Scholarship Information:  Residency recipients will receive a fifteen hundred dollar scholarship to deter costs of participating in the program. Funds can be used towards art supplies, transportation, meals, etc. 

Studios and Accommodations: The residency provides studio space and living accommodations. Each artist will be assigned their own house in which to live and work for the length of the residency.  Artists may choose to work in the JTHAR dedicated studio, a large studio space, divided by movable walls, depending on the artist's needs. Housing Accommodations are located in the Highlands near the West Entrance of the Joshua Tree National Park.  Please refer to our website for examples of housing - JTHAR.COM * Please note that the summer months can be very hot in the high desert.  If you are adverse to the heat, this may not be the program for you.  All houses are equipped with AC.

Residency Terms and Expectations: Artists must provide transportation to and from the program. A vehicle is needed during the residency stay. Artists chosen must be able to attend for the seven week program. No exceptions. Aritsts are welcome to have visitors during the residency. Visitors are limited to a two night stay.  We cannot accommodate family members, partners or pets. Artists must notify hosts of planned visitors.  

Artists chosen for the residency will be required to donate one completed work to the JTHAR program.

Mid-Residency Review: Artists will share their work-in-progress with the board members during a mid-residency review. Reviews are helpful opportunities to discuss progress or issues with completing projects.

Final Exhibition: Artists have the option of an open studio exhibition of their work at the JTHAR studio.

Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency

Established in 2000 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the LA County Arts Internship Program supports and strengthens the cultural sector of LA County by providing access to high quality opportunities for college students of all backgrounds to gain experience, understanding, and transferable skills relevant to careers in the arts, the creative economy, and engagement in public life. 

Students develop a deeper understanding of the work involved in nonprofit arts administration, better understand the role of the arts in communities and develop skills that can be put to use in their future careers.

The program is a sister program to The Getty Foundation’s Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship Program, which provides similar internships in museums and visual arts organizations. The County gratefully acknowledges The Getty’s Foundation support of the educational program components of its Arts Internship Program.

LA County - Arts Internship Program (for Organizations)

The Community Impact Arts Grant (CIAG) program recognizes the value of arts and culture as a vital tool for cross-sector and civic problem solving across a range of issue areas. The program supports arts projects and programming taking place at nonprofit social service and social justice organizations, in municipal departments of one of the 88 cities in Los Angeles County, in local tribal governments, or at fiscally sponsored organizations as part of larger missions to provide services to individuals and communities. CIAG funding enables these organizations to deliver a wide variety of cultural services to County residents that support arts and culture throughout the region. 

LA County - Community Impact Arts Grant Program

CERF+ offers $3,000 Emergency Relief Grants to craft artists who experienced a recent and substantially disruptive emergency or disaster.

To qualify for an Emergency Relief Grant, applicants need to be craft artists who are 18 years of age or older. They must have been living and working in the U.S. or U.S. Territories for the past two years. Additionally, they should not have received an Emergency Relief Grant in the previous year or exceeded the maximum lifetime limit of 4 grants.

San Francisco Arts Commission Grants

California? It’s complicated, almost 40 million people and 40 million stories. California Documentary Project (CDP) grants support nonfiction film, audio, and digital media productions that explore California in all its complexity and tell stories from every corner of the state.

We invite applications for the 2024 round of CDP grants in support of film, audio, or digital media projects that document California subjects and issues, have the potential to bring essential California stories to audiences throughout the state and beyond, and that use the humanities to provide context, depth, and perspective. California residency is not required to apply.


We are particularly interested in supporting stories and projects from communities, regions, and individuals whose voices and perspectives have traditionally been excluded from the broader California narrative. As we center equity in the work of California Humanities, we encourage stories that focus on and highlight Indigenous and Native American experiences in California.

Funding is currently available in two categories:

Research and Development grants are designed to strengthen the humanities content and approach of documentary media productions in their earliest stages. Eligible applicants may apply for funding up to $15,000. Deadline November 4, 2024.

California Humanities - California Documentary Project Grants

The CA$H Theatre Grant Program — short for Creative Assistance for the Small (Organization) and Hungry (Artist) — provides vital financial support to individual theatre artists and small theatre companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1999, these grants support a range of creative projects artists and companies need, from capacity-building projects to fully-produced public performances.

CA$H Theatre is an entirely artist-driven granting program. Each cycle, a panel of five artists and administrators is assembled to review the applications and make all granting decisions. Theatre Bay Area - 2024 CA$H Sustains Grant

The Arts Student Success Project Coordinator applies a variety of analytical, project planning, and administrative skills in support of the Dean's Office's student success initiatives, event programming development and coordination, as well as administrative coordination and support. The Arts Student Success Project Coordinator reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Success/Chief of Staff (ADSS/COS) and works in collaboration with and in support of the Dean and Senior Staff.

The Arts Student Success Project Coordinator collaborates with and supports the ADSS/COS in the administration of student success initiatives. The position supports the Arts Professional Pathways initiative,  student success in the Creative Technologies B.A. program (the first online undergraduate major in the UC system),  Dean's Student Leadership Board, and Dean's Office scholarship programs; events and programming support including participation in developing and planning a robust array of Arts Division events;  and special initiatives and projects of the Arts Dean's Office. Provides administrative coordination and support, applying knowledge of financial and general UC policies.  The Arts Student Success Project Coordinator is a key member of the Dean's Office team and contributes to the unit's mission, requiring knowledge and understanding of the vision and priorities of the Dean and the Division.

Budgeted Salary: $34.96 - $36.87 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

40% - Student Success Planning and Coordination

Provides a variety of analytical duties in support of Arts Professional Pathways and other student success initiatives, programs, and issues, including gathering data, analyzing issues/problems, evaluating data and making recommendations. Arts Professional Pathways includes a portion of support dedicated to student success for the Creative Technologies B.A. program.

Participates in administrative and program project planning, development, and analysis related to Arts Professional Pathways and related student success programming and initiatives; collaborates with program/project staff.

Provides coordination for Dean’s scholarships.

Participates in development and conceptualizing as well as planning and coordinating student success events and initiatives, aligned with Divisional goals and in context of research toward best practices.

Gathers data on assigned problems and issues to prepare reports summarizing information on assigned issues.

Prepares, edits, and modifies documents, including research reports and proposals.

30% - Event & Programming Development & Coordination

Coordinates logistics for projects, events, and visits such as: External Reviews of Arts Division Departments; Arts Division unit projects; the annual Arts Division Retreat; annual Spring Celebration, the annual Convocation; Sesnon Salons, the Dean’s and Chancellor’s award luncheon; and other various divisional events.

Facilitates event development, planning, and coordination.

25% - Dean’s Office Administrative Coordination and Support

Prepares background and briefing materials as necessary for reports, inquiries, and agendas; synthesizes pertinent facts and data from a variety of sources to support the objectives of the Dean’s Office; provides administrative support and coordination for the Dean’s Office which requires a strong understanding of priorities for the Dean and the Division.

Applies a thorough understanding of all general divisional financial processes, policies, and procedures in order to adhere to all University policies and procedures. Maintains accurate records for timely action or retrieval of those records for audit or other purposes.

Provides support such as: processing travel arrangements, payments, purchase orders, and honoraria, and reimbursements for the Dean and the Dean’s executive leadership team.

5% - Web Management and other Duties as Assigned

Performs routine website maintenance, making changes to the Arts Division and associated programmatic web pages.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Excellent verbal and active listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the public

Ability to analyze, research and synthesize data with strong attention to detail. Critical thinking skills.

Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel

Collaborative approach to support special event planning, preparation and execution.

Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion when handling confidential matters.

Excellent writing skills for preparing various documents, reports and executive level correspondence

Ability to operate within a set budget and provide clear information on budget.

Experience with financial policies related to travel, reimbursement, etc. and ability to quickly learn UCSC financial policies

Familiarity with financial systems, and ability to quickly learn UCSC systems such as CruzBuy, Travel Connexxus, ProCard, etc.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment with a high-volume workload with frequently shifting, and at times competing, deadlines and priorities.

Ability to perform routine website maintenance.

The Executive Director is responsible for working with the Board of Directors to establish an organizational strategy, both for mission results and for growth and sustainability, translating the strategy into operational goals for staff, leading and developing the staff team, monitoring the organization’s finances, establishing and growing a base of funders and other revenue streams, and managing external relationships and communication. This position requires a considerable amount of travel.

Native Governance Center is a Native-led nonprofit dedicated to assisting Native nations in strengthening their governance systems and capacity to exercise sovereignty. While originally founded to support the 23 Native nations sharing geography with MN, ND, and SD, we have strategically piloted growth beyond this region and hope to continue to expand offerings with thoughtfulness toward needs identified by communities.

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. Direct Reports to the Executive Director are Director of Finance and Administration, Development Director, and Program Director.

Leads NGC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors, including strategic, programmatic, and financial planning to ensure that NGC can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.

Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction, visibility, and fundraising, and communicate with the Board in a timely and accurate manner all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Lead the direction and success of NGC by fostering a culture of collaboration and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
