Black Image Center is excited to announce our Spring Artist Residency: the California Coast in Color Artist Residency. This residency was designed for Black photographers in Los Angeles to have the opportunity to explore the intersection of nature photography and environmental activism, while addressing the historic exclusion of Black communities from coastal spaces.
Selected participants will receive:
- Coastal access stipend
- Professional training
- Access to water housing
- Networking opportunities with experts in coastal health, nature-based photography, and activism
Co-designed by T’Essence Minnitee, co-founder of EnvironmentallyU, this residency builds a community of "climate communicators" using photography to deepen connections with California’s coastline and inspire action on climate change.
This program is made possible by the California Ocean Protection Council and Justice Outside.
